Dr. Raoul Goldberg is an MD and PhD psychotherapist who has practiced for fifty years. He graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1974 and trained through the late 1970s and early 1980s in integrative clinics in Switzerland and Germany, where he worked in anthroposophic medical settings and studied Goethean science, eurythmy and artistic therapies, and the preparation of natural remedies at the WALA and Weleda laboratories.
He returned to Cape Town, South Africa in 1983 and founded what became Path to Health Center, an integrative medical practice and cancer center that has served the community for four decades, while serving for many years as school doctor to Waldorf schools in the Western Cape. He went on to train in homeopathy, acupuncture, nutritional science, functional medicine, integrative oncology and psychotherapy, and wove these into PATH Method: a participatory approach that works with the psychological and biographical context of chronic illness alongside medical care.
In 2021 he was awarded a PhD in Integral and Transpersonal Psychology by the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, for research on PATH Method and stress. PATH Method has been taught in South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States and Europe, including at the Esalen Institute. He is the author of Awakening to Child Health (Hawthorn Press, 2009) and Addictive Behaviour in Children and Young Adults (Floris Books, 2012). His third book, The Trauma You Call Normal, is published by Whitefox in Autumn 2026.
